Welcome to this summer’s major design exhibition
IKEA AT LILJEVALCHS

13 June – 30 August 2009

IKEA is the company that has furnished Swedish homes and minds for more than half a century. And established itself around the world with incredible success.

This summer Liljevalchs konsthall tells the story of IKEA.
IKEA AT LILJEVALCHS is a candid and entertaining exposition of the largest furniture and design phenomenon of all times.

Liljevalchs’ pleasurable plunge into the subject takes the form of a reflection of the development of modern society – from the emergence of the Swedish Folkhemmet to our time and to the globalised future. The exhibition provides a sky-high recognition factor as well as surprising gems from IKEA’s production.

IKEA AT LILJEVALCHS is also this summer’s major experience for the whole family, offering children daily creative activities in a special room in the middle of the exhibition.

Liljevalchs konsthall invites the audience to an exhibition covering an area of 1,200 square metres. There is a given chronology interspersed with fascinating dips into various themes. The cost of admission is 69 SEK. And for another 69 SEK visitors can purchase the browser-friendly exhibition catalogue which easily fits in the pocket of your summer shorts.

The audience is welcomed into the gallery through Thomas Sandell’s large-size PS cabinet. Already in the entrance hall, visitors encounter IKEA’s famous packaging – the Flat Pack.

Black-and-white documentary images from the furniture store’s first decades show women and men piling flat packs on their roof racks with great ingenuity. Artful packaging combinations is something visitors will see
more of.
